"A
second generation has taken over Big Sky Power, established in 1975
by Ted Hoff who wanted to return to Montana to live.
The new owners are his son, Jamie, who joined the business in 1981
after he, too, returned to the state, and Mike Lucker, who has been
with Sun Rental 15 years. The men took over the business Jan 2.
Ted Hoff was teaching economics at Northern Arizona University in
Flagstaff when he decided to open a Taylor Rental franchise. He
selected Great Falls as the site in order to return to Montana near
the family. The business was operated as a Taylor franchise until
1981 when it became independent.
The business began small with a Bobcat, equipment for light construction,
lawn and garden work, and party supplies. It has grown to include
about 3,250 items in 850 different categories striving to meet a
motto "we rent everything under the sun."
Sun rental also is an authorized sales and service center for Honda
power equipment. It remains at its original location, 1301 3rd St.
NW.
Ted Hoff will semi-retire, but plans to do some consulting and construction
work."
